An Invitation and Guide to Celebrating the Passover

Have you ever celebrated the Passover? I know it seems like one of those age old, ancient traditions, but sometimes there is value in putting the time in to recognize the importance of these celebrations and maybe even celebrate them for ourselves! Celebrating isn’t something we do nearly enough in our world. So why not take up this extra opportunity to gather (with those in our households – you know, COVID rules), eat food, drink wine, visit, worship and read God’s Word to celebrate together?

A few years ago while reading through the events of Holy Week I pondered the story of Jesus and His disciples celebrating Passover during the Last Supper. Why don’t we celebrate Passover today? I figured it was probably because we didn’t really know how or what to do. So, that year I created a simple “Passover Guide” for the families at our church. A guide packed with fun Dollarstore items to remember the plagues in Exodus, a game of hide and go seek with the table matzah to remind us of Jesus’ resurrection, prayer, recipe ideas and kid-friendly discussions to help our families develop a Passover tradition. There is so much evidence to show the positive effect that creating traditions within a family has in the faith journey of a child. Ever since then, my husband and I have been taking the time to celebrate Passover as a part of our Holy Week celebrations leading up to Easter.

I am no Passover celebrating expert, nor am I of Jewish Heritage – but I do value the tradition, the reminder and the way it brings me into worship . . . so much so that my husband and I own our own Seder plate and small wooden communion cups to aid in our Passover celebration each year. In previous years we have used my ‘family friendly’ Passover guide – but this year I decided to make a “grown up” guide (although, I still believe you could use parts of this with your kids and celebrate this as a family).

Do you want another reason to celebrate this year? Try celebrating Passover and reflecting on God’s plan to save leading into the Easter weekend with your friends and family. Download the free guide below! Happy celebrating.
