Restoration

Today it rained. It was mostly dark and thick clouds covered a majority of the sky. My spirit was downcast as I watched the rain pierce the dry ground. Everything outside was dark. Even throughout this dreary, wet day there was still the hope that the rain was creating new life and, even though that new life was not visible in that moment, I knew that the rain was a sign that the dead and brown world around me would soon be renewed.

What a beautiful picture of restoration! God promises us everlasting and refreshing water. He is the spring of living water (Jeremiah 17:13). He rains His pure light from the heavens onto my dry and weary soul.

The rain appears downcast at first, but it soon produces life. God’s love covers me and searches for me, even in the darkest night of my soul. Jesus, the bread of life, nourishes, restores and renews my spirit, creating something more beautiful than what was there in the first place.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.” Psalm 23
