Consume Me

“The Lord your God is a devouring fire; he is a jealous God.” Deuteronomy 4:24

In the last few days, I have come across many verses describing God as a devouring fire. Every time, this portrayal of God seems to catch my attention and fill me with fear. This reverence cultivates feelings of absolute love and affection for Him! A devouring fire is all consuming. It is passionate, beyond control, uncontainable, and it is powerful! My soul longs (Psalm 42:1-2) to know this God that has the power to consume all (Ephesians 4:6). My heart yearns to witness his ultimate power and to see his glory revealed. I am encouraged that my God is a devouring fire that deserves not only my life but my complete and utter affection.

“Since we are receiving a kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshipping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
